The Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) wound up their First Annual Toy Drive last week and delivered the toys received to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital on Friday.
Items delivered included art supplies, books, gift cards, board games, video games and more. Oglethorpe's SAAC solicited donations from their membership and from the student body as a whole, and toys for infants, toddlers, preschool-aged children, school-aged children and young adults were donated.
"Working with children at Children's Healthcare was truly a blessing for me," said sophomore volleyball player Savanna Hockman. "Seeing smiles on faces that don't have a whole lot to smile about is so rewarding. I'm super appreciative of everyone that donated and helped us make this event happen. It was a true honor to be a part of."
In addition to delivering toys, the SAAC members engaged with children at the hospital, playing various sports and board games with them.
"We were really looking forward to engaging in this opportunity with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and we gave our best to provide children with toys and all kind of fun activities during our visit," said sophomore men's basketball player Stefan Britvar. "We got to meet some of the children and spend some time playing basketball, football and wiffle ball with them, as well as playing board games. We'd like to thank everyone who donated toys! The kids enjoyed them a whole lot and we hope to be back at Children's Healthcare in the near future!"
