The Oglethorpe men's soccer and volleyball teams will compete in their respective SAA tournaments this weekend, both of them starting play on Friday. The Stormy Petrels will host the men's soccer tournament at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, while the volleyball tournament is set to take place in Mount Berry, Georgia, at Berry's Cage Center. SAA champions will be crowned at both venues by Sunday evening.
The men's soccer team holds the top seed in their tournament, and is set to take on No. 4 seed Berry at 7 p.m. from the Oglethorpe Track and Field on Friday night in an SAA semifinal matchup. The No. 24 Petrels hold a 14-2-1 record on the season, and will take on the 8-7-1 Vikings, who gave them a test at the same venue on Oct. 20. The Petrels came back from a 1-0 second-half deficit to defeat Berry 2-1 on a double by junior midfielder Topher Marshall, clinching their third straight outright SAA regular season title in the process. If they win, the Petrels will take on the winner of the other semifinal between No. 2 seed Centre and No. 6 seed Millsaps at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon in the championship game. The volleyball team gets their SAA Tournament underway at 1 p.m. from Mount Berry, where they'll take on the top-seeded Berry Vikings in the SAA quarterfinals. The 4-20 Petrels will be looking for redemption against a 25-6 Berry team that beat them by a combined score of 6-0 in their previous two matches, Sept. 13 at Berry and Sept. 27 at Oglethorpe. If they pull off the upset, Oglethorpe would advance to the semifinals on Saturday afternoon, where they'd take on the winner of the 4-5 matchup between Millsaps and Sewanee.
