Oglethorpe Celebrates Inaugural NCAA D-III Week

An opportunity for all individuals associated with a Division III institution to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus, Oglethorpe is celebrating the first ever NCAA Divsion III Week.

The celebration, hosted by the Oglethorpe athletics department and sponsored by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, will begin on Tuesday, April 10 at halftime of the men's lacrosse game versus Berry at approximately 4:30 p.m. The Stormy Petrels men's soccer team, winners of the school's first conference soccer championship, will be honored by walking out to midfield at halftime to display the 2011 Championship trophy.

The observance of Division III Week will continue on Saturday, April 14 at the home baseball doubleheader on Anderson Field in Hermance Stadium against Birmingham-Southern beginning at 1:00 p.m. Family members of Oglethorpe great and MLB Hall-of-Famer Luke Appling '32 will be in attendance to toss out the first pitch of Game 1 while the men's soccer team, led by First Team All-America Mark Lavery, will deliver the first pitch prior to Game 2. There will be a cookout in the grassy area beyond right field free to all Oglethorpe student-athletes.
