Junior Kyle Babb of the Oglethorpe baseball team has been named the SAAC Male Athlete of the Week by his peers in the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The junior left-hander earned his first win of the season after he allowed only one run and struck out six in four innings of work in a 4-1 victory. Babb did not allow a hit and posted a ratio of 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings. Combined with Alex Smith, Noah Cole and Jack Bartlewski, the Oglethorpe pitchers tossed a no-hitter against the Scots. It marked the fourth no-hitter in Oglethorpe's Division III history and the first since 1996. It also served as the first combined no-hitter to feature more than two pitchers in Oglethorpe's Division III history.
Babb and the rest of the Stormy Petrels will be back in action on Tuesday, when they travel across town to take on Emory at 2 p.m.
