Junior goalkeeper Scott Zoino of the Oglethorpe men's soccer team has been named the SAAC Male Athlete of the Week for his efforts in his team's 2-0 victory at Centre to open the SAA season.
Zoino had an outstanding game in the Stormy Petrels' 2-0 victory over the weekend. He recorded 6 saves and earned his second shutout of the season. His efforts kept the game scoreless into the final 10 minutes, where the Petrels scored a pair of goals to nab the victory.
In addition, Zoino earned his second consecutive shutout and his third clean sheet of the season on Monday, as his team routed Brevard, 6-0.
For the year, Zoino is tied for third in the league in fewest goals allowed with seven. He is also currently fifth in the league with a 1.40 goals against average.
Zoino and the rest of the Petrels will be back in action on Saturday, when they face Sewanee in their SAA home opener at noon on the Oglethorpe Track and Field.
