Cornwell Named SCAC Pitcher-of-the-Week

Oglethorpe University shortstop and right-handed pitcher Matt Cornwell of Boca Raton, Florida has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played Monday, February 22 through Sunday, February 28.

Cornwell, a junior for the Petrels, tossed a complete-game gem in a 4-1 win against Johnson & Wales (R.I.), going nine innings while scattering just four hits and striking out a modern day school record 16 batters. He also picked up a win in relief earlier in the week against Washington & Lee to post a 2-0 record for the week.

For the season Cornwell is 3-0 on the mound with a sparkling 2.89 ERA. Additionally, he is batting .359 with 9 RBI and 12 runs scored for the Petrels.
