Petrels Fall to Montclair State 10-6
The Oglethorpe baseball team lost to Montclair State on Sunday afternoon, 10-6. The Petrels fell behind early, but mounted a late comeback effort. It was not to be, however, and Oglethorpe drops to 10-5 on the year.
The Petrels fell behind Montlcair State by the score of 10-2 before making some noise in the late innings with 2 in the eighth and 2 in the ninth to tighten the final margin. Adam Brazenas (2-for-5, 2 runs, RBI), Stephen Archer (2-for-5) and Jeff Pope (2-for-3, run scored, RBI) each had multi-hit games to lead the Petrel offensive attack.
Matt Cornwell (3-1) was saddled with his first loss of the season after going 4 innings on the mound and allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits. For the first time this season, Cornwell struggled with his command, walking 6 batters in the first four frames.
The loss sent Oglethorpe (10-5) to their first losing week of the season after going 1-2 in three games. The Petrels will have a chance to get back in the win column on Tuesday when they face Huntingdon College on Anderson Field in a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
