Petrels Drop Game 1 of SCAC Tournament to Trinity, 11-7

The Oglethorpe baseball team dropped their first game in the SCAC Tournament Thursday afternoon, losing to Trinity 11-7.

Oglethorpe took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and stayed with Trinity's high-powered offense for the majority of the game.

Their first-inning runs came off of a Stephen Archer RBI double and a Joseph Parillo RBI single.

However, they gave up four runs in the next inning to fall behind by two runs.

They came back in the second with an Andy Farrey RBI single to cut the lead to one.

After the Tigers scored two more to take a 6-3 lead, the Petrels scored two more on another Parillo RBI single and a Jake Spear fielder's choice-RBI.

The Tigers retook an 8-5 lead, but the Petrels came back again with another Parillo RBI single to cut the lead to 8-6.

However, Trinity pulled away from there, scoring two runs in the seventh to take the final 11-7 lead.

Parillo had an excellent game, going 4-for-5 with three RBI.

Mark Hoban picked up a loss, giving up eight runs over 3 2/3 innings.

The Petrels also lost starting catcher Adam Brazenas to injury in a frightening incident in the first inning. Brazenas was hit in the face with a high-and-tight fastball, fracturing his cheekbone.

The Petrels dropped to 19-22 with the loss. They will play an elimination game Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. Eastern time against division rival Rhodes, who also lost their first round game on Thursday.
