Archer Featured in NCAA Identity Initiative Video
Oglethorpe senior baseball player Stephen Archer of Decatur, Georgia is featured in a recently released video by the NCAA emphasizing their Identity Initiative Platform. Archer, the Stormy Petrels' senior left-fielder, is one of only three student-athletes selected nationwide to embody the principles of the model Division III student-athlete.
The official unveiling of the Division III Identity Initiative Platform occurred at the 2010 NCAA Convention in Atlanta. It featured the premiere of the video portraying the Division III educational and athletics experience including the piece about Oglethorpe's Archer. The video, which can now be accessed here, is the cornerstone to the launch of the NCAA's new Division III Identity Activation Website on July 13, 2010.
Archer was named to the 2010 All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Baseball First Team for his performance on the diamond this year. He batted .343 with 7 homeruns and 38 RBI for the season. The 7 homeruns in a season are tied for second all-time in Oglethorpe history. He also appears in the NCAA record books tied for the most doubles in a single game after smashing 5 on February 20, 2009. In addition to his baseball heroics, Archer is the president of the Chi Phi fraternity and will graduate this May with a 3.8 GPA and a degree in Accounting. He has already been hired by Ernst & Young to begin his professional career this October.
