The Oglethorpe baseball team dropped the rubber game of their three-game series at DePauw Sunday, losing 10-3 to the Tigers.
The Petrels fell behind early, finding themselves with a 7-3 deficit after three innings, and were unable to claw their way back. DePauw eventually added three more runs to put the game away in the sixth.
Oglethorpe started the game by taking a 2-0 lead in the first. They got an RBI single from shortstop Matt Cornwell to bring home one of the runs.
They also scored a run in the second to pull themselves to within three runs of the Tigers. But they would not score again after that.
The loss drops the Petrels to 14-12 on the year, 4-4 in SCAC play. After a full weekend of conference play, they remain in third place in the East Division. With first-place Birmingham-Southern ineligible to compete for the championship, it essentially puts Oglethorpe in second place. The top three teams in the division qualify for the SCAC Tournament in Millington, Tenn.
The Petrels will next be in action Tuesday at Anderson Field, where they will take on Covenant. First pitch is scheduled for approximately 6 p.m.
