The Oglethorpe baseball team dropped the first game of a three-game set to Berry Friday evening, 10-4. The loss drops the Petrels to 18-22 on the year. They will now need to sweep their doubleheader with Berry on Saturday to attain their first 20-win season since 1997.
The Petrels took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but saw Berry score all 10 of their runs over the next three innings. The Petrels did get two runs back in the sixth on an RBI double by Andy Farrey and an RBI single by Jake Spear. They would then score an additional run on another Spear RBI single, but that is all they would get. The Petrels equaled the home-standing Vikings on hits (10-10), but left 10 men on base.
Emmett Goodman got the start and suffered the loss. He allowed three earned runs on three hits, walking five and striking out three.
Jake Spear had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt and two RBIs. Farrey went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Cory Leff went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
The final two games of the Petrels' season will take place on Saturday. They will host these same Vikings at Anderson Field. Game 1 will get started at approximately 2 p.m.
