The Oglethorpe baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Rust College Friday afternoon, blowing out the visiting Bearcats, 18-0, in seven innings.
Oglethorpe picked up a run in the second when Nick Manai tripled and scored on a wild pitch. They then picked up two more in the third on a two-run single by Frank Sarno, scoring Manai and T.J. Schmutz.
The Petrels really picked up steam in the fourth, though, as they scored 15 runs in their final three innings at-bat. They scored five in the fourth. Big blows in that inning included a two-run homer by Joe Parillo and a sacrifice fly by Jayce Owen. In the fifth, they scored six times, including a two-run double by Manai, a two-run homer by Josh Morgan, and an RBI single by Will Hanna. They completed their scoring in the sixth with four runs. In that inning, an RBI single by Morgan, an RBI double by Owen and a two-run single by Sarno provided the scoring.
Cory Campbell got the start for the Petrels, pitching five innings of shutout ball, allowing only two hits. He struck out four and didn't walk anybody.
Sarno was 3-for-4 with a stolen base and four RBIs. Morgan was 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, a stolen base and three runs scored. As a team, the Petrels stole 11 bases on the day.
The Petrels improve to 10-21 with the win. They will next be in action on Saturday, when they will take on Birmingham-Southern in an SCAC series. A doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, and a single game will start at 1 p.m. Sunday.
