Two members of the Oglethorpe baseball team earned All-SCAC honors this week. Senior second baseman Jake Spear was selected to the All-SCAC first team, and senior Joe Parillo was selected as All-SCAC honorable mention as a designated hitter.
This selection represents the second All-SCAC honor for Spear, who made the 2009 honorable mention list as a freshman. This is Parillo's first All-SCAC selection.
Spear is hitting .329 this season for the Petrels. He has played in all 38 games and started 37 of them. He has accumulated a .373 on-base percentage and scored 22 runs. He's cracked 10 doubles this far this season, and is currently 5-for-8 in the stolen-base department.
Parillo leads the team in hitting (minimum 50 at-bats) with a .351 mark. He is slugging .504 and carries a .393 on-base percentage. He's started, at either catcher or designated hitter, 34 of the Petrels' 38 games. He's cracked three home runs and nine doubles thus far this year, and has driven in 28 runs.
The Petrels will complete their season this weekend with a two-game, home-and-home series against Emory.
