Oglethorpe sophomore first baseman Andrew Mink had his second consecutive outstanding week since returning from an early-season injury, and earned SAA Baseball Player of the Week Monday from the league's office for his efforts. He became the second Stormy Petrel this season to earn the honor, and the third to take an SAA weekly award of any type.
Mink went 8-for-15 with 2 home runs, a double, 3 walks, 2 stolen bases, 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored over 4 games. He sported a .632 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage for the week. In Saturday's 12-7 Game 1 win over Sewanee, he went 3-for-5 with 2 home runs, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. He helped his team to an 11-8 midweek victory over Covenant and a 14-1 victory over Sewanee in Game 2 Saturday, as well.
"Mink worked hard to get back from an early season injury," said Oglethorpe head coach Dan Giordano. "I know it was tough for him watching us play, but he put in the work and we love having him back."
Mink earns his first career SAA Player of the Week award and becomes the second Petrel to earn the award this season, after Austin Ferlita took the honor on Feb. 13. Junior right-hander Matt Davis also earned SAA Pitcher of the Week honors on March 6.
Mink and the Petrels will be back at Anderson Field for five games this week. They'll host Huntingdon Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Piedmont Wednesday at 7 p.m., before welcoming Centre in for a 3-game set Saturday and Sunday.
