  • Seventy-Seven Stormy Petrels Earn Spot on Spring Semester Dean's List

    The Oglethorpe athletic department saw 77 varsity student-athletes named to the university's spring semester Dean's Academic Honors List this week. Students who earned a spot on the spring Dean's List earned a 3.5 GPA over the course of the semester while accruing 12 or more credit hours. The 77 student-athletes joined a total of 356 students overall to earn a spot on the spring Dean's List.

  • Baseball Puts Two on All-Region Squads

    The Oglethorpe baseball team saw two of its players earn spots on All-Region squads this week. Junior first baseman Andrew Mink was named to the D3baseball.com All-South Region First Team and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-South Region Second Team, while senior designated hitter Adrian Celata garnered a spot on the D3baseball.com All-South Region Third Team.

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Sixth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the university's Turner Lynch Campus Center. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2017-18 athletic year as a whole.
  • Baseball Places Seven on All-SAA Teams

    The Oglethorpe baseball team saw seven members make the All-SAA teams, released Thursday by league office and voted by the league's coaches. Earning a spot on the All-SAA First Team were senior designated hitter Adrian Celata, junior first baseman Andrew Mink and sophomore relief pitcher Jack Bartlewski. Senior outfielders Patrick Burnette and Jarvis Miller earned spots on the All-SAA Second Team, along with junior starting pitcher Kyle Babb, while senior second baseman Matt Motz earned All-SAA Honorable Mention.
  • Baseball Sees Season Come to Close with Pair of SAA Tournament Losses

    The Oglethorpe baseball team entered Friday with high hopes in the SAA Tournament after vaulting themselves into the winner's bracket with a first-round victory over Centre on Thursday. However, the Stormy Petrels dropped their first game of the day to hosts Rhodes at Stauffer Field in Memphis, Tennessee, falling 10-4 and dropping into the day's second elimination game against Centre Friday night at USA Stadium in nearby Millington. The Colonels got their revenge on the Petrels in that contest, winning 9-6 and eliminating Oglethorpe from the SAA Tournament.
  • Baseball Holds on for 2-1 Win to Open SAA Tournament

    The third-seeded Oglethorpe baseball team found themselves locked in a tight, low-scoring game with the sixth-seeded Centre Colonels Thursday afternoon in the SAA Tournament opener for both teams at Stauffer Field in Memphis, Tennessee. In the end, though, it was the Stormy Petrels who held onto a slim lead through the late innings and came away with the 2-1 win, moving into the winner's bracket of their 4-team tournament pod.
  • Baseball Drops 11-1 Decision to Huntingdon

    The Oglethorpe baseball team rounded out their regular season Monday evening in Montgomery, Alabama, with an 11-1 defeat to Huntingdon in eight innings. The Stormy Petrels fell to 23-16 with the loss.
  • Baseball Swept by Birmingham-Southern in Doubleheader

    The Oglethorpe baseball team had a tough Saturday against the Birmingham-Southern Panthers, falling in both games as part of a doubleheader at Anderson Field. The Stormy Petrels lost the first game 16-8, then fell 11-5 in the second game. The results dropped Oglethorpe to 23-15 on the season overall and 12-9 in SAA play, locking them into third place in the league headed into the SAA Tournament.
  • Baseball Falls to Birmingham-Southern to Open Final SAA Series of Regular Season

    The Oglethorpe baseball team fell behind early Friday night against the visiting Birmingham-Southern Panthers and couldn't bounce back in a 5-3 defeat at Anderson Field. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 23-13 on the season overall and 12-7 in SAA play. With the loss, Oglethorpe fell a half-game back of second-place Rhodes into third place in the league, with the Lynx getting their 3-game series with Hendrix started on Saturday.
  • Baseball Uses 4-Run Seventh to Knock off Emory, 6-2

    The Oglethorpe baseball team found themselves locked in a pitcher's duel for much of Tuesday night's game against crosstown rival Emory at Anderson Field. The Stormy Petrels broke through with four runs in the seventh, though, turning a 2-2 tie into a 6-2 Oglethorpe victory and improving the home side to 23-12 on the season.
  • Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Hendrix, Moves into Tie for Second Place in SAA

    The Oglethorpe baseball team split a doubleheader with Hendrix Sunday in Conway, Arkansas, allowing them to move into a tie for second place in the SAA with Rhodes at two games back of first-place Berry. The Stormy Petrels defeated the homestanding Warriors 4-1 in Game 2 on Saturday after falling 9-4 in the first game. Oglethorpe improved to 22-12 on the season overall and 12-6 in SAA play.
  • Baseball Series with Hendrix Changed Due to Weather

    The Oglethorpe baseball team's series with Hendrix has changed due to wet and wintry weather currently making its way through Conway, Arkansas, where the two teams are trying to play. The teams will play a single game Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. Eastern, and the Stormy Petrels will now face the Warriors in a doubleheader Sunday beginning at noon Eastern.
  • Baseball Comes Back from 3-Run Deficit Late to Beat Hendrix 5-4

    The Oglethorpe baseball team found themselves down 4-1 entering the sixth inning on a cold afternoon in Conway, Arkansas, but they came through with three runs in that frame to tie the game, then pushed across the game-winning run in the ninth for a 5-4 victory over the homestanding Hendrix Warriors. The Stormy Petrels improved to 21-11 overall and 11-5 in SAA play with the victory, maintaining their position in third place in the league. They now sit just a game behind a tie for the conference lead with Berry and Rhodes.
  • Five-Run LaGrange Inning Sinks Baseball in 9-4 Loss

    The Oglethorpe baseball team was even with the visiting LaGrange Panthers, 4-4, going into the seventh inning Tuesday night at Anderson Field. However, the visitors came up with a 5-run frame to tilt the game in their favor in a 9-4 victory over the Stormy Petrels. The loss dropped the home side to 20-11 on the season.
  • Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader and Series from Millsaps

    The Oglethorpe baseball team held down the Millsaps lineup all day Saturday in a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Majors, winning the first game, 7-4, before coming back with a 6-2 victory in Game 2. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 20-10 on the season overall and 10-5 in SAA play, putting them in third place by themselves. They sit just a game behind Berry for second place and two back of Rhodes for first.
  • Baseball Defeats Millsaps 14-4 to Open 3-Game Set

    The Oglethorpe baseball team got their 3-game series with Millsaps off to an outstanding start Friday evening at Anderson Field, pulling away for a 14-4 win in which the 10-run rule had to be invoked after seven innings. The Stormy Petrels rapped 13 hits and took advantage of four Millsaps errors to score five unearned runs en route to the 10-run victory which improved the team to 18-10 on the season overall and 8-5 in SAA play. The win also moved the Petrels into a tie for third place with Millsaps in the SAA standings.
  • Mink, Motz Named to D3baseball.com Team of the Week

    The Oglethorpe baseball team had two players named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on Tuesday, as junior first baseman Andrew Mink and senior second baseman Matt Motz were two of 13 Division III players from around the nation who were honored. The two Stormy Petrels had the best week at their position of anybody in Division III baseball, according to the Team of the Week voters.
  • Baseball Falls to LaGrange in Non-Conference Road Game

    The Oglethorpe baseball team fell to the homestanding LaGrange Panthers on Tuesday night, 17-3, at Cleaveland Field in LaGrange. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 17-10 on the season overall.
  • Andrew Mink Earns SAA Baseball Player of the Week Honors

    Junior first baseman Andrew Mink of the Oglethorpe baseball team has been named the SAA Baseball Player of the Week by the league office for his effort in the Stormy Petrels' 2-1 weekend against Sewanee. It marked the second time this season that Mink earned the award, and the third time in his career.

    The Oglethorpe baseball team split a doubleheader with the Sewanee Tigers Saturday at Anderson Field, beating them 11-4 in Game 1 before falling 14-8 in Game 2. The results moved the Stormy Petrels to 17-9 on the season overall and 7-5 in SAA play.
  • Baseball Comes off Deck with Four Runs in Ninth to Beat Sewanee

    The Oglethorpe baseball team came back from four runs down to beat the visiting Sewanee Tigers Friday evening at Anderson Field, scoring four runs in the ninth inning to erase a 7-4 Sewanee lead entering the bottom of the ninth and propel themselves to an 8-7 victory. The Stormy Petrels now sit at 16-8 on the season overall and 6-4 in SAA play.

    The Oglethorpe baseball team's 3-game series against Sewanee this weekend has shifted due to forecast rain in the Atlanta area, with Sunday's single game now moving to Friday evening at Anderson Field. The series will now take place over Friday and Saturday, with a single game Friday evening at 6 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday afternoon and evening, starting at 2 p.m.

    The Oglethorpe baseball team fell to the homestanding Rhodes Lynx Sunday in Memphis, Tennessee, allowing the home team to take two of three from the series at Rhodes' Stauffer Field. The Lynx scored three runs in two of the first three innings to build a 6-0 lead, and they rode that to an 8-4 victory. The loss dropped the Petrels to 15-8 on the season overall and 5-4 in SAA play.

    The Oglethorpe baseball team continued their stretch of 1-run games in SAA play on Saturday in Memphis, Tennessee, as they played the homestanding Rhodes Lynx in a pair of them at Rhodes' Stauffer Field. The Stormy Petrels came back to win 3-2 in the second game after falling 5-4 in Game 1.

    The Oglethorpe baseball team earned a comprehensive victory over the visiting Piedmont Lions Wednesday night at a chilly Anderson Field, winning 13-4 to improve to 14-6 on the season and earn a sweep of the season series with the Lions.
  • Baseball Defeats Centre 11-10 to Take Thrilling 3-Game Set

    The Oglethorpe baseball team won their second game of the weekend over the homestanding Centre Colonels on Sunday, taking 2-of-3 from the home team in a wild series in Danville, Kentucky. The Stormy Petrels came back from being down 9-6 in the seventh inning to take the lead, then scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning off an RBI single from senior left fielder Britton Araujo after Centre had tied the game again in the seventh. With the victory, the Petrels improved to 13-6 on the season overall and 4-2 in SAA play.
  • Baseball Splits Doubleheader on Wild Day in Kentucky

    The Oglethorpe baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday in Danville, Kentucky, against the host Centre Colonels in a pair of wild games. The Stormy Petrels won the first game 12-11 before falling 4-3 in eight innings (the game was scheduled for seven) in Game 2. Both games saw multiple lead changes, huge momentum swings, and a victory attained in the winning team's final at-bat. The Petrels now sit at 12-6 on the season overall with a 3-2 mark in SAA play.
  • Baseball Blanks Kalamazoo 7-0 to Take Series, Takes 3-of-5 from Busy Weekend
    March 05, 2018
    The Oglethorpe baseball team earned a shutout victory over the visiting Kalamazoo Hornets on Monday, scoring four runs over their final two innings at the plate to pull away and secure the 7-0 win. The victory meant that the Stormy Petrels took 2-of-3 from Kalamazoo and 3-of-5 from the long weekend, improving to 11-5 on the season.
