Sophomore Andrew Mink of the Oglethorpe baseball team was earned Hitter of the Week honorable mention from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association this week, marking the second player of the week award in short succession after taking SAA Player of the Week honors on Monday.
Mink had an outstanding week for the Stormy Petrels, leading his team to a non-conference victory over Piedmont and a series win over Berry. Overall, he went 11-for-18 over the four games with a home run, three doubles, a walk, eight RBIs and six runs scored.
In the Petrels' SAA opening series against Berry, the Oglethorpe sophomore first baseman went 9-for-13 with a home run, two doubles, seven RBIs and four runs scored. That included a 2-for-3, three-RBI performance in Saturday's 8-1 win, which clinched the series for the Petrels.
At this early point in the season, Mink currently leads the SAA in hits (20), doubles (5), RBIs (15) and total bases (31), and is third in the league with a .488 batting average.
He and the rest of the Petrels now get set to host Rose-Hulman in a doubleheader on Saturday and Kalamazoo in a 3-game set Sunday and Monday. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon while Sunday's starts at 2 p.m. The Petrels will finish up their series with Kalamazoo on Monday at 11 a.m.
