Men Top Colby in Final Non-Conference Tilt of Year

The Oglethorpe University men's basketball team defeated Colby College on Pinholster Court on Tuesday night, 88-82. The Petrels used a swarming defense that forced 21 Mule turnovers on their way to claiming victory in their final non-conference game of the season.

The game was a back and forth affair that saw both teams gain leads in the game's first twenty minutes. Oglethorpe held an early 8 point lead before the Mules responded to claim a 29-24 advantage at the 7:40 mark of the first half. Oglethorpe closed the half on a 20-9 run to carry a 44-38 lead into the break.

The Mules jumped early in the second half, scoring 8 straight points to regain the edge before the Stormy Petrels responded with a 12-0 run over the next 5 minutes of clock time to seize control of the game.

Alex Richey connected on 8 of 14 attempts from the field to lead all scorers with 23 points on the evening. Junior Todd Ward continued his steady work of providing double-doubles, this time posting 15 points and 13 rebounds in the win.David Allison added 16 points and 7 assists for the Petrels and Joe Kennedy provided 12 of his own in the big Oglethorpe win.

The win marks Oglethorpe's fourth consecutive victory and raises the Petrel record to 6-3 on the season. The Petrels will begin their remaining slate of conference games this Friday when they tip off with Birmingham-Southern at 8:00 p.m. on Pinholster Court.
