Men Topped by Tigers, 80-60

The Oglethorpe University men's basketball team lost to the DePauw University Tigers in Greencastle, Indiana on Sunday afternoon, 80-60. The Petrels only trailed by one point at halftime (28-27) but the Tigers opened the second half on a 30-9 run to seal the conference win.

Cold shooting doomed Oglethorpe on this Sunday afternoon as the Tigers held the Petrels to only 34% (23-67) from the field. Despite the shooting struggles, the Petrels hung around and were right on the Tigers' heels at halftime. But the second stanza began with Oglethorpe missing 5 of their first 6 shots and turning the ball over three times in that span. Suddenly, the Tigers held a 13 point advantage with 15 minutes to play from which the Petrels could get no closer.

Todd Ward led only two Petrels in double-figures on the afternoon with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Joe Kennedy connected on 3 of 5 shots behind the arc and finished with 11 points and 4 rebounds in Oglethorpe's second consecutive SCAC loss.

The Petrels are now 8-5 on the season and 3-2 in SCAC play. Oglethorpe is back in action this Friday night when they square off with the Trinity Tigers in San Antonio, Texas.
