Ward, Richey Highlight 6 Petrels Receiving GABCA Postseason Honors

The Georgia Basketball Coaches Association (GABCA) announced its postseason All-State Awards earlier today and six members of the Oglethorpe University men's basketball team received recognition.

Oglethorpe junior forward Todd Ward of Venice, Florida and junior guard Alex Richey of Alpharetta, Georgia highlighted the list by earning First Team All-State honors for their outstanding seasons on the hardwood. Ward, a preseason All-America candidate, scored 13.2 points per game and averaged 8.8 rebounds for the Stormy Petrels during his junior campaign. Richey led the Petrels in scoring at 13.8 points per contests and also led the team in minutes played at 32.3.

Joining Ward and Richey with postseason accolades was senior guard Wade Weldon of Dunwoody, Georgia who was named a member of the All-State Honorable Mention Team. Weldon started all 25 games for Oglethorpe during the 2009-2010 season and averaged 9.8 points per contest. Additionally, Weldon was selected as a member of the 2010 GABCA All-Academic Team for maintaining a GPA above 3.0 during his career.

Also selected as GABCA All-Academic Team members were Oglethorpe senior David Allison of Stuart, Florida, freshman Tyler Cerone of Roswell, Georgia and freshman Branden Jovaag of Gainesville, Georgia.
