GABCA Senior Showcase a Big Success
Oglethorpe hosted the annual Georgia Basketball Coaches Association Senior Showcase on Saturday night as the SC Visitors topped the SC Home squad 99-87. Clarence Tillmon of North Georgia was named the game's MVP after pouring in 20 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing 5 assists.

Steioff Highlights Group of Petrels Receiving GABCA Honors
The Georgia Basketball Coaches Association (GABCA) announced the 2011-12 All-State Award recipients on Wednesday and Oglethorpe senior center Andrew Steioff highlighted a group of five Petrels to receive regognition.

Cerone and Steioff to Compete in Senior Showcase
Oglethorpe University senior basketball players Tyler Cerone and Andrew Steioff have been selected to compete in the annual Senior Showcase this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. on Pinholster Court. The game features 23 of the best Division II, III and NAIA senior basketball players from across the state.

Steioff Named All-SCAC Third Team, Pitts Deemed Honorable Mention
The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its postseason basketball award winners on Saturday night and Oglethorpe stars Andrew Steioff and Alec Pitts received recognition. Steioff, a senior from Duluth, Ga., was named to the All-SCAC Third Team while Pitts, a junior from Mobile, Ala., collected Honorable Mention status.

Hot Shooting Panthers Too Much For Petrels
The men's basketball team lost 92-80 on the road at Birmingham-Southern on Saturday night to a hot shooting Panther squad. The No. 8 ranked Panthers made 56% of their shots and drilled 11 treys to keep a game Petrel squad at bay. The Petrels now need a Sewanee loss to Millsaps tomorrow to make the SCAC Tournament.

Colonels Pull Away From Petrels Late
The men's basketball team lost to centre College on Pinholster Court on Sunday afternoon, 74-60. The Petrels trimmed an 11-point second half Colonel lead down to one but then went over six minutes without a field goal as Centre pulled away to victory.

Men Thrash Sewanee, Move to 4th Place in SCAC East
The men's basketball team took a huge step toward earning a postseason berth in the SCAC Tournament on Friday night when they thrashed Sewanee on Pinholster Court during Homecoming festivities, 69-49. The Petrels turned a two point game with 8:40 to play into a laugher by closing the game on a 23-5 spurt.

Petrels Power Past Majors
The men's basketball team kept their postseason hopes alive by topping Millsaps in Jackson, Miss. on Sunday, 70-51. The Petrels drilled 50% of their shots from the field and held the Majors to just 34% en route to setting up a huge showdown against Sewanee this Friday.

Lynx Stun Petrels Late
The men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker on Friday night as Rhodes College topped the Petrels in the final seconds in Memphis. With the score knotted at 62 apiece, Lynx guard John Dunavant nailed a three-pointer with 4 seconds left to lift Rhodes to a 65-62 win.

Men Rally But Lose Late at Colorado
Trailing for most of the game, the men's basketball team found themselves down by 20 points with barely 10 minutes left in the second half at Colorado College on Sunday afternoon. The Petrels rallied all the way within one and had a shot at the lead go awry before losing 61-58.

Men Squander Early Lead; Late Rally Comes Up Short
The men's basketball team had their three-game winning streak snapped in Conway, Ark. on Friday night as they lost to Hendrix 80-73. The Petrels led by 10 with 5 minutes to play in the first half before going cold. Down 11 with 2:30 remaining in the game, they fought back to cut it to three before ultimately falling on the road.

Three Party: Barrage of Treys Lifts OU to Third Straight Win
The men's basketball team played their finest 40 minutes of hoops this season en route to trouncing Austin College on Pinholster Court, 79-52. Whether they were lighting it up from deep (15-of-33 from three) or putting the clamps down defensively (held AC to 37% from field), the Petrels put it all together this fine Sunday afternoon.

Petrels Push Back Crusaders, Win 76-65
Needing a jolt to get back to the .500 mark, the men's basketball team won back-to-back games for the first time since November by knocking off Dallas on Friday night 76-65. The Petrels built up a 15 point second half cushion before the Crusaders rallied to cut the lead to four. Oglethorpe closed the game out with a flourish, however, to move to 8-9 on the season.

Men Stomp Southwestern 77-55
In desperate need of a win, the men's hoops team got one on Saturday night by dominating Southwestern on the road by the final score of 77-55. A hot shooting Petrel squad drilled 17 three pointers on the night to easily dispatch the Pirates and pick up their first road victory in league play.

The men's basketball team lost to Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas on Friday night, 76-54. The Petrels never led and trailed by double-digits for most of the night as another conference rival enjoyed a hot shooting night.

Men Top Majors for First League Win
The men's basketball team picked up their first SCAC win of the season on Sunday afternoon by topping Millsaps College on Pinholster Court, 65-56. The Majors held a brief first half lead that lasted only four minutes of clock time before Oglethorpe raced in front and never looked back en route to victory.

The men's basketball team was topped by Rhodes College on Pinholster Court on Friday night, 76-55. The Lynx made a remarkable 17-of-19 (90%) first half shots and used a 20-0 run to open up a 27 point halftime lead to remove any doubt early on in this contest.

The men's basketball team returned from winter break in style on Tuesday evening by demolishing Berry College on Pinholster Court, 93-56. The Petrels busted open the game with a dominating 20-0 stretch in the first half and led the Vikings by as many as 42 points en route to the home court laugher.

The men's basketball team lost to Centre College in Danville, Ky. on Sunday evening, 65-55. The Petrels fell behind by 15 points in the first half but rallied all the way back to take a lead with less than 6 minutes to play, but the Colonels closed the game with an 18-7 scoring run to claim the conference win.

Men Lose 2nd Straight SCAC Tilt in Dying Seconds
The men's basketball team suffered their second straight one point defeat in conference play on Friday night when they fell at Sewanee, 61-60. This time the Petrels blew an 18 point first half advantage and the Tigers scored off a turnover with 18 seconds left for the winning bucket.

The men's basketball team beat Covenant College on Pinholster Court in overtime on Wednesday night, 78-72. In a rollercoaster affair the Petrels had the final say, nailing 4-of-6 shots in overtime to survive a scrappy Scot squad.

Petrels Upset Bid vs. No. 10 Emory Comes Up Short
Playing their second Top 20 ranked opponent in 3 days, the Petrels were topped by Emory University on Pinholster Court on Monday night, 60-54. The Petrels held a 30-20 advantage with 2:03 to play in the first half before a 31-6 run over 15 minutes of clock time put the visiting Eagles in control.

The men's basketball team lost in heartbreaking fashion to the No. 19 ranked team in the nation on Saturday evening when Birmingham-Southern's Larry Thomas hit a three-pointer as time expired to lift the Panthers to a 63-62 win on Pinholster Court.

The men's basketball team topped Piedmont College on Pinholster Court on Wednesday evening, 76-62. After drilling 47% of their three's in a Sunday win over LaGrange, the Petrels bettered that figure by nailing 48% from downtown against the Lions en route to the double-digit win.

The men's basketball team topped LaGrange College up in Maryville, Tennessee on Sunday afternoon, 83-68. After falling at the Panthers in the season opener, the Petrels exacted a measure of revenge on Sunday by dominating the second half on their way to victory.

The men's basketball team topped Millikin University to win their home opener on Pinholster Court on Friday night, 68-42. The Petrels nailed 5 of their first 6 three-point attempts of the contest, and 13 overall, en route to the blowout win over the Big Blue out of Decatur, Illinois.

Panthers Top Petrels in Opener
The men's basketball team struggled to find their shooting touch playing on the road at LaGrange in their season opener and fell to the Panthers, 77-59. The Panthers connected on 52% of their shots while the Petrels were only able to convert at a 38% success rate in the loss.

Petrels Fall to State in Exhibition
The men's basketball team lost to D-I Georgia State on Saturday night in a preseason exhibition, 90-49. The Panthers scholarship players forced 24 Petrel turnovers and converted them into 40 transition points to earn the win.
