The men's basketball team lost to Rose-Hulman on Saturday night on Pinholster Court, 68-50. The Fightin' Engineers used an 18-3 run midway through the first half to open up a 15 point cushion and position themselves for the win.
The game began innocently enough with the teams trading baskets until the score was tied at 9 apiece with 12:53 to play. That's when the Engineers made their decisive spurt, keyed by drilling four straight bombs from behind the arc. The Petrels fought back to trim the lead to 11 and trailed 33-22 at the break.
Oglethorpe briefly trimmed the lead to single digits in the early stages of the second half but Hulman quickly closed the door by rattling off 13 straight points to open up a 20 point cushion and effectively put the game away.
The Petrels struggled shooting the ball on Saturday in going 17-of-58 (29%) from the field. After making nearly 50% of their three's in their win over Millikin on Friday night, Oglethorpe only made 5-of-19 (26%) on Saturday.
Alec Pitts led the attack for Oglethorpe with 18 points and Andrew Steioff grabbed 13 rebounds. The Petrels are now 1-2 on the young season and will travel to face Maryville next Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
