Oglethorpe men's basketball head coach Philip Ponder has added Stormy Petrel alum Alex Richey to his coaching staff. Richey is the third former player under Ponder to become a part of his current staff, joining assistants Andrew Tulowitzky ('07) and Josh Burr ('06).
He was named Third-Team All-Conference (in the SCAC) as a junior and was an Honorable Mention selection in his senior season. He ranks among the school leaders in three-pointers made and attempted and is also the school's latest member of the 1,000-point club.
A product of Centennial High School in Roswell, Ga., where he was a two-time 5A All-State basketball player, Richey graduated from Oglethorpe in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He joins the staff after spending a year in corporate America upon graduation.
"I am very happy to have Alex join our coaching staff," said Ponder. "Alex is an Oglethorpe guy through and through and is very passionate about the game. I love having former players on staff, and feel fortunate to have three great assistants. They know our system and are invested in Oglethorpe and Stormy Petrel basketball."
