The men's golf team concluded their fall season on Tuesday evening by coming home in 8th place at the 2011 Royal Lakes Fall Classic hosted by Oglethorpe. Christopher Newport University fired a two-day total of 585 to win the event.
The Petrels posted a team total of 604 to finish 19 strokes off the Championship pace in a field that included 17 team entrants and 98 golfers. Senior Jordan Hall led the way for the Petrels with a total of 148 (+6), good for a tied for 15th place result. Junior Eric Quinn carded a 152 (+10) and finished tied for 28th while freshman Anthony Maccaglia was one stroke behind in a tie for 37th. Sophomore Anthony amodeo matched Maccaglia's 153 total and also finished T-37th while senior Matt Rebitch (158, +16) took a tie for 63rd.
Oglethorpe also had "B" team entrants competing in the field with freshman Kentaro Toyota scoring the best with a 155 (+13). Fellow freshman Stephen Harris finished one stroke behind Toyota and sophomore Hayden Jones and freshman Will Morrow were each one shot behind Harris.
The Petrels, ranked No. 7 in the nation by Golfstat, enjoyed a stellar fall season to position themselves nicely for another NCAA run. They recorded two fifth place finishes (Rhodes Classic, Gordin Classic), one fourth place (Golfweek) and closed with the 8th place finish at Royal Lakes.
Oglethorpe is off until March 4 when they enter the Wynlakes Collegiate Classic hosted by Huntingdon.
