The Oglethorpe men's golf team will enter Monday's final round of the inaugural SAA Fall Conference Preview in Birmingham, Ala., at the Limestone Springs course in first place by 13 strokes.
Oglethorpe jumped out with a quick start to the fall season as junior Anthony Amodeo fired an opening four-under 68 to pace the Stormy Petrels. Oglethorpe placed four individuals in the top six finishers in the first round. Amodeo totaled six birdies and two bogies in his four-under round.
Amodeo's 68 trails Rhodes Colleges' Kevin Bell, who set the pace for the day with a spectacular seven-under 65 to take the individual lead. Oglethorpe junior Hayden Jones was third at two-under 70. Scott Hamel of Rhodes shot an even-par 72 and is alone in fourth, while Petrel sophomores Will Morrow and Anthony Maccaglia are tied for fifth with one-over 73.
Rhodes shot a nine-over 297, good for second place. At 301, Centre is 17 strokes back of the leaders. Berry holds fourth place with a 302 and Millsaps rounds out the top five at 306, 22 behind Oglethorpe.
