Men's Golf in Second Place After Day 1 of Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational

The Oglethorpe men's golf team finds itself in second place after Day 1 of the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational. The Petrels' overall score of 293 is just one stroke behind Day 1 leader Methodist.

Sophomore Anthony Maccaglia posted the Petrels' highest individual score with a two-under 69. That is good for second place overall, just two strokes behind Mike Wesko of Methodist.

The Petrels lead current third-place team California Lutheran by five strokes. Cal Lutheran is currently the No. 1 team in the nation according to Golfstat's head-to-head rankings. Oglethorpe sits in fourth in that particular poll.

Greensboro and Averett round out the top five, seven and 10 strokes back of Methodist, respectively.

Senior Eric Quinn finished the day in a tie for 12th place with a three-over 74. Junior Hayden Jones and sophomore Will Morrow find themselves in a tie for 21st after the first day, having posted a four-over 75. Junior Anthony Amodeo finished in a tie for 53rd with an eight-over 79.

As Oglethorpe is hosting the tournament, several Oglethorpe golfers are competing as individuals only. Among those, sophomore Kentaro Toyota, and freshmen Braden Baer and Thomas Jeffries-Harrison had the best days. They all finished in a tie for 38th. Junior Patrick Cansfield finished in a tie for 68th, junior Lewis Gregory finished tied for 79th, and freshman Lawrence de Sola finished 87th.
