Hendrix College got the early jump on the men's lacrosse team on Friday afternoon by scoring the first three goals of the game en route to a 12-3 victory on Salamone Field.
Cameron Millstone of the Warriors netted back-to-back goals to start the scoring just three minutes into the game and put the Petrels in a quick 2-0 hole. The score remained the same until just 45 seconds into the second quarter Millstone completed the hat trick with his third tally.
Oglethorpe responded with their best push of the game just moments later when the Petrels scored two goals within a span of just 5 seconds to quickly make the score 3-2 with 12:38 to play in the second quarter. Coleman Plaisted notched the first tally with a deft flick of the wrist tally from just 2 meters out on the left flank. Ben Caoili then won the next faceoff and fed Jake Godwin for the second strike.
The Warriors, however, quelled any notion of a Petrel rally by rattling off the next seven goals of the game to open up a 10-2 advantage before Oglethorpe would score again. That goal would come from junior Michael Kasmarik on a powerful shot 15 yards out but, with only 8 minutes remaining, it was to late for Oglethorpe.
The Petrels are now 1-5 on the season and will face Colorado College this Sunday on Salamone Field at 12:00 p.m.
