  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2017-18 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Sixth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the university's Turner Lynch Campus Center. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2017-18 athletic year as a whole.
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls to Centre in Season Finale

    The Oglethorpe Men's Lacrosse team hosted SAA rival Centre Colonels on Saturday afternoon in their last game of the season. The Petrels held on early in the game allowing only 3 goals in the first and 2 goals in the second quarter. However in the third, the Colonels would score 8 goals compared to 1 by the Petrels. The Petrels would end the game losing 17-3.
  • Men's Lacrosse Drops SAA Contest to Birmingham-Southern

    The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team hosted the Birmingham-Southern Panthers in an SAA matchup on Sunday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. The Panthers were able to build an early 3-0 lead, but the Stormy Petrels would respond with a goal of their own making it 3-1. The Panthers would score two more goals before the Petrels were able to earn their second goal of the day. Regardless of the impressive performance by the Petrels in the first quarter, the Panthers would record eight unanswered goals to end the second quarter. By halftime, the Panthers were winning 13-2. In the second half, the Panthers were able to score 10 goals compared to only two by the Petrels. The Petrels lost 23-4 and have dropped to 1-10 on the season overall, as well as 0-5 in the SAA.
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls to Berry in SAA Contest

    On Saturday afternoon, the Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team hosted the Berry Vikings at the Oglethorpe Track and Field in an SAA matchup. The Vikings jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first four minutes of play. The Stormy Petrels would continue fighting, but by halftime the Vikings managed to earn a 15-0 advantage. The Petrels would hold the Vikings to only four goals in the third, followed up by six more goals in the fourth. The Petrels also scored their lone goal early in the fourth. Nevertheless, the Vikings earned a 26-1 victory. The Petrels dropped to 1-9 on the season and 0-4 in the SAA.
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls to Sewanee on Road
    March 24, 2018
    On Saturday March 24th, the Oglethorpe Men’s Lacrosse team traveled to Sewanee, Tennessee to face SAA rival the Sewanee Tigers. The Stormy Petrels allowed the Tigers to build 7-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and by halftime the Tigers created a 12-0 advantage. The Petrels only goal would come in the final quarter, which by that time, the Tigers were already winning 20-1. The Petrels would lose the game 21-1 dropping them to 1-8 on the season and 0-3 in SAA play.
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls 28-4 at Rhodes

    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team fell to the homestanding Rhodes Lynx Sunday afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee. Rhodes jumped on the Stormy Petrels early, scoring 11 consecutive goals in the first quarter to take control of the contest early. The result dropped the Petrels to 1-7 on the season overall and 0-2 in SAA play.
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls to Hendrix in SAA Opener
    March 16, 2018
    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team fell to the homestanding Hendrix Warriors 19-1 Friday night in Conway, Arkansas, in the SAA opener for both teams. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 1-6 on the season overall.
  • Men's Lacrosse Drops Tight Game to Dallas
    March 13, 2018
    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Dallas Crusaders 11-8 at the Oglethorpe Track and Field Tuesday night, falling to 1-5 on the season. The Stormy Petrels stayed with the visitors throughout and came back from a 7-1 second-quarter deficit to pull to within a single goal, 9-8, midway through the fourth quarter. However, Dallas came away with consecutive goals late to put it away.
  • Andrew Kwapil Named SAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

    Junior defenseman Andrew Kwapil of the Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team was named the SAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week Monday by the league's office for his efforts in the Stormy Petrels' 1-1 week with a 9-5 victory over Mount St. Joseph on Friday.
  • Men's Lacrosse Knocks off Mount St. Joseph, 9-5, for First Victory of Season
    March 09, 2018
    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season Friday afternoon in Cincinnati, defeating the homestanding Mount St. Joseph Lions 9-5 in a game where they led by as many as six goals early in the second half. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 1-4 on the season.
  • Men's Lacrosse Loses Second-Half Lead En Route to 9-4 Loss to Muskingum
    March 07, 2018
    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team played well in the first half Wednesday night, building a 4-2 lead over Muskingum at halftime in New Concord, Ohio. However. the homestanding Fighting Muskies came back with seven unanswered goals in the second half to turn the tables and defeat the Stormy Petrels 9-4. The loss dropped Oglethorpe to 0-4 on the season.
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls to Lyndon State, 10-5
    February 25, 2018
    On Sunday night, the Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team hosted Lyndon State at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. The Stormy Petrels fought hard to remain within striking distance and trailed just 5-2 at halftime. Unfortunately, the visiting Hornets were able to extend their out to 9-3 just a few minutes into the fourth period and would cruise from there, securing a 10-5 win and dropping the Petrels to 0-3 on the young season. 
  • Men's Lacrosse Falls at Huntingdon in Road Opener
    February 21, 2018
    The Oglethorpe men's lacrosse team hung tough against the homestanding Huntingdon Hawks Wednesday night in Montgomery, Alabama, scoring four goals in the second quarter to remain in the game at halftime, down by just five goals. Huntingdon pulled away in the second half, though, outscoring the Stormy Petrels 9-3 over the final 30 minutes to win 18-7. The loss dropped the Petrels to 0-2 on the young season.
  • Men's Lacrosse Opens Season with Loss to Tennessee Wesleyan
    February 17, 2018
    The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team opened up the 2018 season at home at the Oglethorpe Track and Field against the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs. The Stormy Petrels allowed the Bulldogs to begin the game scoring six unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes of play. The Petrels entered halftime trailing 17-3. However, in the second half the Petrels defense showed significant improvement, allowing just four goals over the final 30 minutes of the contest. The impressive first half performance by the Bulldogs allowed them to seal a 21-6 win, though. 
  • 2018 Men's Lacrosse Season Preview

    The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team will take the field for their first game of the 2018 season Saturday afternoon, when they welcome Tennessee Wesleyan to the Oglethorpe Track and Field at 4 p.m. The Stormy Petrels welcome new head coach Zach Taylor into the fold this season, and he looks to impart a new outlook on the team as they move forward into a new season.
