Petrels Triumph Over Birmingham
The men's soccer team scored a victory over Birmingham-Southern in Alabama on Friday night, 2-1.
The two teams played a scoreless first half before things heated up in the second stanza. The Petrels scored the game's first goal in the 59th minute via a free kick from the foot of Ben Robertson. The Panthers, however, equalized with a strike of their own less than 60 seconds afterwards on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.
With the score knotted at one apiece, Oglethorpe earned a free kick from 35 yards out in the 67th minute that Aaron Walker beat the Panther keeper with to earn the game-winner.
The Panthers outshot the Petrels 15-11 and won 7 corners to only 2 for the Petrels yet Oglethorpe notched the victory to move to 7-9-1 on the season. Oglethorpe closes their season out at Millsaps this Sunday afternoon.
