The men's soccer team continued their stellar play on Friday in Conway, Arkansas by scoring early and finishing late to top Hendrix College, 2-0. The Petrels have now rattled off six consecutive wins, three in an unblemished conference slate, to move to 9-2 on the season.
Division I transfers Mark Lavery (Kentucky) and Sean King (Presbyterian) hooked up to get the Petrels on the board just six minutes into the game when Lavery found King for the tally. The two squads then battled back and forth, Hendrix mustering 12 first half shots to Oglethorpe's 10, but keeper Frank Petersen denied all seven attempts on target in an outstanding effort.
The Petrels tilted play further in their direction in the second half, earning 9 shots to the Warriors 8 and only allowing two on target, both of which Petersen handled. Oglethorpe put the contest out of reach in the 80th minute when freshman Austin Fiddler scored his second goal of the season on an assist from sophomore Dustin Hoeppner.
Oglethorpe is back in action on Sunday afternoon when they face Colorado College in Colorado Springs at 2:00 p.m. Eastern. Use the live stats link on gopetrels.com to follow all the action.
