Petrels Stay Hot, Top Tigers in OT

The men's soccer team continued to pile up victories on Sunday afternoon by topping Colorado College in Colorado Springs 2-1 in overtime. The Petrels clinched their seventh straight win when Ben Robertson cracked home the game-winner just two minutes into OT on a free kick from 30 yards out.

The game remained scoreless for the first 65 minutes until Nick Williamson took a pass from Harrison McConnell and converted it to gold to give Oglethorpe a 1-0 advantage. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Tigers equalized exactly two minutes later in the 67th minute on a strike from Daniel Wright.

The squads battled back and forth but neither could jump ahead before the regulation clock expired. Then, at the 2:38 mark of overtime, Sean King was fouled at the top of the box, 30 yards out, to set up Robertson's free kick heroics.

The Tigers fired 24 shots in the contest but only six were on target. The Petrels, meanwhile, cracked 15 shots and put 10 on target to notch their seventh straight overall and fourth consecutive conference win.

At 10-2, the Petrels are officially off to their best start in school history with an .833 winning percentage through 12 games. Oglethorpe will look to keep the momentum rolling when they face Rhodes College in Memphis this Friday afternoon.
