The Oglethorpe men's soccer team left Mount Berry, Ga., with a split of their two games, as they defeated Guilford College, 3-1, on Sunday.
Things started out very well for the Petrels, as they got a goal from Ben Robertson in the second minute of the game. Jakub Madej followed in the 29th off an assist from Carlos Gaston to give the Petrels a 2-0 lead.
When Guilford had a player sent off a minute later, Oglethorpe was in excellent position to close out the game. They did so, for all intents and purposes, in the 49th minute, when Madej tallied his second goal of the game, this one off an assist from Taylor Spear.
Guilford got a goal back later in the half, but Oglethorpe held on for the relatively easy 3-1 victory.
The Petrels outshot Guilford 24-15, and Oglethorpe goalkeeper Frank Petersen stopped five shots en route to his third win of the year.
The win improves the Petrels to 3-1 on the season. They will next be in action Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m., when they will travel across town to take on Emory.
