Men's Soccer Suffers 4-1 Defeat at Centre

The Oglethorpe men's soccer team went down to defeat Saturday night at Centre, losing to the homestanding Colonels 4-1. The loss drops the Petrels to 8-3 on the season, 2-2 in SAA play.

Centre started the scoring in the 37th minute, taking a 1-0 lead. The Petrels got a big momentun shift in the 45th minute, though, as they scored the equalizer just eight seconds before halftime. Junior defender Nikos Papanikolopoulos nodded home a cross from senior midfielder Ben Robertson to tie the game 1-1.

However, the second half was all Centre. They took the lead back for good in the 52nd minute, and extended it just nine minutes later in the 61st. They put the game away with their final goal in the 82nd, leading to the 4-1 win.

The Colonels outshot the Petrels 20-10. The Petrels were more efficient with their shots than Centre, putting seven of their 10 shots on-frame to the Colonels' 10-of-20, but were only able to score the one goal.

Centre took five corner kicks to Oglethorpe's three.

The Petrels will next be in action on Friday, when they will travel to Jackson, Miss., to take on Millsaps. The game will kick-off at 8 p.m. Eastern.
