  • Three Men's Soccer Players Earn Scholar All-Region Honors

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team placed three players on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Men's Scholar All-South Region teams on Friday, as senior defender Jordan Locke and junior midfielder Topher Marshall both earned Scholar All-South First Team honors and senior defender Josh Hoeft both garnered a spot on the Scholar All-South Second Team. It marked the third year in a row where at least one member of the Stormy Petrels earned Scholar All-South honors from the region's coaches.

It marks the second national postseason honor for Marshall this year, and the first for Locke.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team came in at No. 24 in the final D3soccer.com Men's Top 25 of the season, released Friday by the website. The Stormy Petrels dropped a couple of spots from their season-high of No. 22 in the poll leading into the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship. It marked the third straight poll release in which the Petrels were in the D3soccer.com Top 25, and the fourth week overall in which they were ranked in a major poll after they came in at No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches poll on Sept. 12.
  • Five Stormy Petrels Named to SAA Fall All-Sportsmanship Teams

    The SAA released their 2017 Fall All-Sportsmanship Teams Friday, recognizing student-athletes who displayed outstanding sportsmanship over the course of their seasons. The five Stormy Petrels selected join a total of 56 student-athletes among the conference's eight full-time and five affiliate members across its seven sponsored fall sports.
  • Men's Soccer Puts Three Players on Coaches' All-Region First Team

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team received big recognition from the coaches around the South Atlantic region this week, as senior defender Jordan Locke, junior midfielder Topher Marshall and junior forward Ryan Marcano all earned spots on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Men's All-South Atlantic Region First Team. It marks the second consecutive time that Marshall has earned All-Region accolades, and the first career All-Region selections for both Locke and Marcano. It's also the first career All-Region First Team accolade for all three of them.
  • Marshall, Marcano Named to United Soccer Coaches All-America Teams

    Junior midfielder Topher Marshall and junior forward Ryan Marcano of the Oglethorpe men's soccer team were both named to United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Men's All-America teams Thursday night, becoming the third and fourth players in the history of the Oglethorpe men's soccer program to earn All-American honors. Marshall took home All-America Second Team accolades, marking just the second time in program history that a Stormy Petrel has earned Second Team accolades or higher, and Marcano garnered All-America Third Team honors. It serves as the career All-America honor for both players.
  • Men's Soccer Sees Season Come to Close in Heartbreaking Shootout Loss to Washington and Lee

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team fought tooth and nail Sunday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship at Watt Field in Lexington, Virginia, but fell just short in the end. The Stormy Petrels fell 5-4 in a penalty kick shootout to the homestanding Washington and Lee Generals after a game that finished tied 3-3 after 110 minutes of action.
  • Men's Soccer Earns First-Ever NCAA Tournament Win, Defeats North Carolina Wesleyan 5-2
    November 11, 2017
    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team won the first NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship game in their history Saturday, defeating the North Carolina Wesleyan Battling Bishops 5-2 in Lexington, Virginia, to advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time. The Petrels used braces from both junior forward Devon Patterson and sophomore midfielder Adam Sole and a pair of assists from senior defender Jordan Locke to pull away from the Battling Bishops.
  • Men's Soccer Set to Compete in First NCAA Tournament since 2011

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team is set to kick off their first NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship contest since 2011 when they face off against North Carolina Wesleyan at 11 a.m. Saturday from Alston Parker Watt Field in Lexington, Virginia.
  • Hoeft Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

    Senior defender Josh Hoeft of the Oglethorpe men's soccer team was named to College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team for District 5, as voted by CoSIDA members. The award recognizes efforts both athletically and in the classroom, and marks the second regional academic award of Hoeft's career after he earned Scholar All-South Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2016.

It marked the second consecutive week in which the Stormy Petrels were ranked in the website's top 25, and the third week overall in which they have been ranked in a major poll after coming in at No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches Division III poll on Sept. 12.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team saw the accolades continue to roll in Monday morning after winning their second SAA championship on Sunday, as the SAA's coaches voted nine Stormy Petrels onto the All-SAA teams. In addition, junior midfielder Topher Marshall earned SAA Offensive Player of the Year, senior defender Jordan Locke took home SAA Defensive Player of the Year, and Oglethorpe head coach Jon Akin won SAA Coach of the Year honors. It marked the second consecutive season in which the Petrels took three of four postseason awards and put nine on the All-SAA teams.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team broke through with the second SAA championship and third overall conference title in their history on Sunday afternoon, beating the No. 2 seed Centre Colonels 2-1 in the SAA Men's Soccer Championship at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, and securing the SAA's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament. It marks the first time in their history that the Stormy Petrels have won both the conference championship and the conference regular season crown in the same season, and will be the second time that the Oglethorpe men's soccer team has made an appearance in the NCAA tournament.
  • Men's Soccer Advances to SAA Championship in Heart-Pounding Fashion, Defeats Berry 2-1 on Alvarez Golden Goal

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team advanced to their second SAA championship game in dramatic fashion Friday night in front of a record crowd of well over 1,000 people at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, getting a golden goal from sophomore forward Gabriel Alvarez in the 99th minute to secure a 2-1 SAA semifinal victory over No. 4 seed Berry. The top-seeded and 24th-ranked Stormy Petrels had a 1-0 lead into the final 10 minutes before the visitors scored an equalizing goal, sending the contest into overtime. With the win, the Petrels improved to 15-2-1 on the season.
  • Men's Soccer, Volleyball in SAA Tournament Action This Weekend

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer and volleyball teams will compete in their respective SAA tournaments this weekend, both of them starting play on Friday. The Stormy Petrels will host the men's soccer tournament at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, while the volleyball tournament is set to take place in Mount Berry, Georgia, at Berry's Cage Center. SAA champions will be crowned at both venues by Sunday evening.

The victory, combined with their 8-1 thrashing of Millsaps on Friday night, moved the Petrels to within a point of clinching their third consecutive SAA regular season title.

They scored four goals in the first half en route to thrashing the Majors 8-1. The result gave the Stormy Petrels 13 points (4-0-1) through five games, putting them five ahead of second-place Centre, who has eight points through four games (2-0-2).

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team remained undefeated in SAA play, defeating Rhodes 1-0 Sunday afternoon in an evenly-played game on the road in Memphis, Tennessee. In a game that was a scoreless tie for the majority of the proceedings, the Stormy Petrels broke through midway through the second half and then held on for the one-goal victory. The result improved the team to 9-2-1 on the season overall and 3-0-1 in SAA play, firmly establishing them at the top position of the league standings with more than half of the campaign finished.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team put together a dominating performance Friday night in Conway, Arkansas, defeating the homestanding Hendrix Warriors 6-0. The Stormy Petrels scored three goals in each half and outshot Hendrix 25-4 over the course of the contest. The result improved the Petrels to 8-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in SAA play.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team picked up a huge non-conference win Monday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, knocking off No. 17 Washington (Missouri), 3-1, in a game dominated by the Stormy Petrels. Oglethorpe outshot the visiting Bears 22-9 over the course of the game and built a 2-0 second-half lead before the visitors were able to mount a significant response.
