The Stormy Petrels were down 1-0 midway through the second half, but junior midfielder Topher Marshall turned the game around with a second-half brace to ensure Oglethorpe their third straight outright league title.

It marked their second victory over a ranked team this season after their triumph over then-No. 19 Washington (Missouri) earlier in October, and improved the Stormy Petrels to 12-2-1 on the season overall.

    Midfielder Topher Marshall of the Oglethorpe men's soccer team earned SAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors from the league office Monday coming off his performances in the team's 8-1 victory over Millsaps on Friday and their 3-0 win over Birmingham-Southern on Sunday. It marks the second time that Marshall has won the award in his career, and the fourth time that a member of the Stormy Petrels has won it this season.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team picked up on Sunday where they left off Friday, defeating the visiting Birmingham-Southern Panthers 3-0 at the Oglethorpe Track and Field to improve to 11-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in SAA play. The victory, combined with their 8-1 thrashing of Millsaps on Friday night, moved the Petrels to within a point of clinching their third consecutive SAA regular season title.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team jumped all over the visiting Millsaps Majors from the very first kick of the ball Friday night at the Oglethorpe Track and Field and did not let up. They scored four goals in the first half en route to thrashing the Majors 8-1. The result gave the Stormy Petrels 13 points (4-0-1) through five games, putting them five ahead of second-place Centre, who has eight points through four games (2-0-2).

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team remained undefeated in SAA play, defeating Rhodes 1-0 Sunday afternoon in an evenly-played game on the road in Memphis, Tennessee. In a game that was a scoreless tie for the majority of the proceedings, the Stormy Petrels broke through midway through the second half and then held on for the one-goal victory. The result improved the team to 9-2-1 on the season overall and 3-0-1 in SAA play, firmly establishing them at the top position of the league standings with more than half of the campaign finished.
  • Men's Soccer Routs Hendrix, 6-0

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team put together a dominating performance Friday night in Conway, Arkansas, defeating the homestanding Hendrix Warriors 6-0. The Stormy Petrels scored three goals in each half and outshot Hendrix 25-4 over the course of the contest. The result improved the Petrels to 8-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in SAA play.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team picked up a huge non-conference win Monday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, knocking off No. 17 Washington (Missouri), 3-1, in a game dominated by the Stormy Petrels. Oglethorpe outshot the visiting Bears 22-9 over the course of the game and built a 2-0 second-half lead before the visitors were able to mount a significant response.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team earned an impressive 3-1 victory over the homestanding Sewanee Tigers Friday night in Tennessee, as junior Topher Marshall enjoyed his best performance of the season so far for the Stormy Petrels. The Petrel midfielder recorded his first career hat trick and put the Sewanee goal under siege over the course of the game, firing eight shots and putting four of them on goal.
  • Men's Soccer Jumps Out to Early Lead, Cruises to 3-1 Victory over Roanoke

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team got their neutral-site contest with Roanoke off to an excellent start Tuesday night and rode that to a 3-1 victory over the Maroons in a game played at the CSA OrthoCarolina Sportsplex in Pineville, North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 5-2-1 on the season as they get ready to head back into conference play over the weekend.
  • Men's Soccer Game against Sewanee Moved to Friday

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team's road SAA contest with the Sewanee Tigers in Tennessee, originally scheduled for Saturday night, has been moved to Friday night at 7 p.m. Eastern. The change occurred to accommodate the rescheduled Berry-Sewanee game, which was postponed due to lightning last weekend.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team found itself in a tight, hard-fought battle against the visiting Centre Colonels Friday evening at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, and wound up with a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes. The Stormy Petrels fell behind late in the first half, but mounted a stirring late comeback to tie the score after a spectacular bicycle-kick goal from senior forward Devon Patterson, earning them a point in the standings in their SAA opener.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team, ranked 12th in the United Soccer Coaches poll coming into the week, faced off against the visiting Lynchburg Hornets, ranked 23rd in the D3soccer.com poll, Sunday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, but it was the visiting Hornets who picked up a second-half goal en route to a 1-0 victory. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 4-2 on the season.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team came in at No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches Division III national poll this week, released Tuesday by the national organization of collegiate soccer coaches. In addition, Oglethorpe also came in at No. 2 in the South Atlantic regional poll conducted by the same organization.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team saw a pair of members earn SAA Player of the Week honors Monday, as senior goalkeeper Luke Whelan earned the SAA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award and junior midfielder Ryan Marcano the SAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award. Both players performed exceptionally well in the Stormy Petrels' weekend sweep at the Seahawk Classic in St. Mary's City, Maryland. Oglethorpe defeated host St. Mary's 2-0 and knocked off Salisbury 1-0 in the weekend's two games.

    The Oglethorpe men's soccer team continued their unbeaten run to start the season Sunday afternoon in St. Mary's City, Maryland, as they defeated the Salisbury Sea Gulls 1-0 to improve to 4-0 on the year. The Stormy Petrels got an early goal from junior midfielder Ryan Marcano and made it stand up over the final 83 minutes of the game en route to the victory. The win gave Oglethorpe their first 4-0 start to a men's soccer season in their Division III era, and marked the first time the team has gone undefeated through their first four games since 2010, when they started 3-0-1.
