Tennis Drops Opener to Division I Georgia State

The Oglethorpe University men's tennis team got their season underway on Downing Howell Courts on Thursday, falling to Division I Georgia State, 8-1. Despite the final score, the Petrels battled the Panthers through many close matches.

Felix Mann and Brad White held a 5-1 lead at #1 doubles before falling to the Panther's top combo, 8-5. Alex Biffle and Ross Beall also managed to win 5 games at #2 doubles before falling by the same score of 8-5.

In the singles matches, Oglethorpe recorded their only point of the match when sophomore Bryan Bailey won at the #4 slot, 6-2, 6-1. Biffle took his singles match to a super-breaker before losing, 3-6, 7-6, 10-7. Mann also battled valiantly against the Panther's number one player, falling in the #1 singles position, 6-4, 6-3.

The men's tennis team is back in action this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. when they square off with Young Harris on Downing Howell Courts.
