Men's Tennis Sweeps Away Maryville For First Win of Season
The Oglethorpe University men's tennis team earned their first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon by sweeping away Maryville College in Tennessee, 9-0. Eager to play some Division III competition after dropping their home opener to D-I Georgia State, the Petrels pounced all over the Scots.
The men dominated the doubles competition by only allowing the Scots to win two of the 26 games played as Oglethorpe rolled 8-0, 8-1, 8-1.
Felix Mann scored an easy win at #1 singles, 6-2, 6-0 and freshman Alex Biffle cleaned up his opposition, 6-0, 6-1. Bryan Bailey clinched the match for Oglethorpe with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the #3 singles position while Brad White, Lawrence Sweatman and Masen Shreve closed out with wins at the numbers 4, 5 and 6 slots.
The Petrels are now 1-1 on the season and will have a week off before facing rival Sewanee in Tennessee on February 28.
