Men's Netters Show Promise at ITA's
Several members of the men's tennis team competed in the International Tennis Association tournament this past weekend on the campus of Emory University with many Petrels posting postitive results.
No. 6 overall seed Felix Mann advanced all the way to the round of 16 on the strength of consecutive victories before bowing out. Ross Beall and Ethan Motz each won a match before succombing to Emory opponents. Preston Freeman dropped his opener to an Emory opponent but showed well. Freeman then teamed with Mann in the doubles competion where they advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles draw on the strength of back-to-back victories.
Out of the "B" Draw, freshmen Jeremiah Farmer, Daniel Sullivan, Rajiv Dinakaran and Sandy Cristofferson combined to go 8-0 by winning two matches apiece to advance to the quarterfinals before eventually losing. Sullivan and Christoffersen also advanced to the Semi Finals of the "B" doubles competition.
With the solid groundwork laid, Head Coach Peter Howell looks forward to an exciting 2011 season this spring.
