The SCAC announced the 2011 Men's Tennis All-Conference award winners today and senior Felix Mann of Herndon, Va. highlights a group of several Petrels with postseason honors.
In voting by the head coaches from around the league, Mann collected a total of 82 points and two Player-of-the-Year votes on his way to finishing third overall among the 10 players to make the prestigious team. Mann posted an impressive 16-3 record from the No. 1 singles position this season while also compiling a 17-4 mark in No. 1 doubles play. This is Mann's second consecutive All-SCAC honor after being selected as Honorable Mention following his freshman and sophomore seasons.
Sophomore Alex Biffle of Greenwood, S.C. also was selected to the 2011 All-SCAC Men's Tennis Team after collecting 24 points in voting from the coaches to finish tied for 9th. Biffle played the No. 3 singles position superbly for head coach Peter Howell, posting a 17-2 record on the season. He also posted a 10-9 mark in doubles play, primarily from the No. 2 slot. This marks Biffle's first All-SCAC selection after being recognized as an Honorable Mention following his freshman campaign.
Junior Bryan Bailey from Hebron, Ken. collected All-SCAC Honorable Mention status by collecting 8 points in the coaches voting. Bailey posted an outstanding 18-3 overall record playing mostly from the No. 4 singles position. Additionally, he compiled a 16-4 doubles record playing from each of the three available positions. This is Bailey's second consecutive All-SCAC Honorable Mention award.
The squad also handed out their team awards at their annual dinner banquet last Wednesday with Mann earning team MVP honors, freshman Ethan Motz collecting the Most Improved award and senior Lawrence Sweatman earning the "Stormiest Petrel" designation for his dedication to the team. Motz recorded a 16-5 record in singles play this season while Sweatman combined for a 7-1 mark in singles and doubles play.
