Men's Tennis Starts Season with Loss at Emory

The Oglethorpe men's tennis team began its season with a 9-0 loss at top-ranked defending national champion Emory Friday night.

Things got off to a poor start for the tennis Petrels, as they were swept in their three doubles matches (8-2, 8-3, and 8-2). This caused them to fall behind 3-0, meaning Emory needed only win two of the six singles matches to clinch victory.

Freshman C.J. Antonio hung tough in the first set against his opponent, but fell in the end, 6-4. The second set was more difficult, as the match was closed out 6-2 by his opponent.

Senior Bryan Bailey had a similar arc to his match. He also lost 6-4, 6-2, hanging tough in the first set but losing in the second.

The Petrels dropped to 0-1 on the season, but did have an oppotunity to bounce back quickly against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College the next morning.
