  • Seventy-Six Stormy Petrels Earn Spot on Spring Semester Dean's List

    The Oglethorpe athletic department saw 76 varsity student-athletes named to the university's spring semester Dean's Academic Honors List this week. Students who earned a spot on the spring Dean's List earned a 3.5 GPA over the course of the semester while accruing 12 or more credit hours. The 76 student-athletes joined a total of 356 students overall to earn a spot on the spring Dean's List.

    Saturday served as Graduation Day for Oglethorpe University, with a large number of Oglethorpe student-athletes receiving their diplomas on the school's academic quad on Saturday morning.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2017-18 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Sixth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the university's Turner Lynch Campus Center. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2017-18 athletic year as a whole.
  • Men's Tennis Puts Three Players on All-SAA Teams

    The Oglethorpe men's tennis team placed three men on the All-SAA teams Friday as voted by the league's coaches. Freshman Walker Benson earned All-SAA Second Team honors, while junior Richard Johnson and sophomore Zoe Raymond both garnered All-SAA Honorable Mention.
  • Men's Tennis Suffers Heartbreaking 5-4 Loss to Rhodes to End Season

    The fifth-seeded Oglethorpe men's tennis team found themselves locked in a tight match with fourth-seeded Rhodes Friday afternoon in the first round of the SAA Tournament at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, which came down to the final match. The Lynx prevailed in the end, though, bringing the Stormy Petrels' season to a crushing 5-4 end.
  • Men's Tennis Earns 6-3 Victory over Centre

    The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team earned a 6-3 victory over the Centre Colonels on Saturday afternoon at the Howell Courts. The Stormy Petrels pulled out to a 2-1 lead after doubles. They would lose the first two single matches, but would finish by winning the final four singles contests.

    The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team picked up an 8-1 win over LaGrange on a beautiful day on the Howell Courts Tuesday afternoon. Before the match, Judd Motz was honored for Senior Day, and the celebration continued as the match went on. 
  • Men's Tennis Drops Conference Match to No. 40 Millsaps

    The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team fell to No. 40 Millsaps on Sunday afternoon by the score of 5-1 in a match that was played to decision in Jackson, Mississippi. The Stormy Petrels dropped the first two doubles matches at Nos. 1 and 2, but the duo of junior Michael Santaloci and freshman Calvin Schneider picked up an 8-6 win at No. 3 to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into singles play.
  • Men's Tennis Comes Back for 5-4 Victory over Regionally-Ranked Birmingham-Southern

    On a cold and blustery day in Birmingham, Alabama, and with the score tied 4-4 between the Oglethorpe men's tennis team and Birmingham-Southern, everything came down to the final match between Oglethorpe sophomore Zoe Raymond and Birmingham-Southern’s Charlie Rowe at No. 5 singles.  Fittingly, their match went to a third set, where Raymond won to give the Petrels a hard-earned 5-4 win. The win improved the Petrels to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in SAA play.
  • Tennis Matches with Birmingham-Southern Postponed Due to Rain

    The Oglethorpe tennis teams' matches against the Birmingham-Southern Panthers Friday night in Alabama have been postponed due to rain. The two teams will attempt to play on Saturday early in the afternoon before the Stormy Petrels travel to Jackson, Mississippi, for their matches against Millsaps on Sunday.
  • Men's Tennis Cruises to 7-2 Victory over Piedmont

    The Oglethorpe men's tennis team cruised to a 7-2 win over Piedmont Thursday afternoon in Demorest, improving their record to 9-5 on the season.
  • Men's Tennis Drops Tight One to Rhodes, 5-4

    The Oglethorpe men's tennis team dropped a tight decision to regionally-ranked Rhodes Saturday afternoon on the Howell Courts, falling 5-4. The Petrels took two of three doubles matches, but couldn't hold onto the lead in singles play. With the defeat they fell to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in league play. Both losses have been 5-4 decisions, the other coming to Berry a week ago.
  • Men's Tennis Knocks off Hendrix for First SAA Victory of Season

    The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team picked up a convincing 8-1 win over Hendrix Friday afternoon on the Howell Courts to improve their overall record to 8-4 and even up their SAA record at 1-1. 
  • Men's Tennis Suffers Tough Loss in SAA Opener

    The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team lost an extremely close match to Berry, 5-4, in the SAA opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at the Howell Courts. The loss snapped a 3-match win streak and dropped the Stormy Petrels to 7-4 overall and 0-1 in SAA play.

    Freshman Walker Benson of the Oglethorpe men's tennis team has been named the SAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his efforts in leading the Stormy Petrels to a 4-2 record on their spring break trip to central Florida.

    The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team split matches Tuesday down in Florida, losing a heart-breaker in the morning to Wabash, 5-4, before bouncing back with a 6-3 victory over Wheaton (Illinois) in the afternoon. 
  • Men's Tennis Sweeps Day 2 of Spring Break Trip, Defeats Clark University and Emerson

    The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team rebounded from Sunday afternoon's defeat against nationally-ranked Coe with a sweep of two matches Monday on their spring break trip in central Florida. The Stormy Petrels defeated Clark University 8-1 on Monday morning in Orlando, then made the brief trip to Kissimmee for their evening matchup against Emerson, where they prevailed in an 8-0 sweep.
  • Men's Tennis Falls 7-2 to Coe to Begin Spring Break in Florida

    The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team got off to a tough start to their spring break trip, losing to No. 36 Coe, 7-2, Sunday in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The Petrels lost all three doubles matches, putting themselves in a hole from the start.
  • Men's Tennis Blanks Roanoke, 9-0

    The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team picked up a resounding victory over Roanoke on a beautiful Saturday morning on the Howell Courts. After sweeping doubles play, the Petrels also swept all six singles matches to secure the 9-0 victory. The win improves the Petrels to 2-1 on the season.

    The 2018 Oglethorpe men’s tennis team comes off a “rebuilding year” after taking the Conference title in 2016. This is a young team consisting of one senior, five juniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen. The team features good depth with no “superstars”. We will win by taking the lower half of the lineup and have to play strong doubles.

    The Oglethorpe men's tennis team will travel 70 miles north to Rome this weekend, where they'll compete in the ITA Men's South Regional Championships at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College Friday through Sunday. Individuals will take part in a variety of draws in addition to the main singles and doubles draws.
