Oglethorpe Jumpers Score Big at 2010 SCAC Track and Field Championships

Despite repeated stoppages caused by bouts of severe weather over the two day track & field championships, Oglethorpe's corps of jumpers continued their impressive 2010 season at Hendrix College.

For the men, junior Evan Britton placed third in the high jump finals and finished second only to the 2010 NCAA indoor and 2009 outdoor national champion in the triple jump.  Britton's effort in the triple jump was his best of the year at 45'3.25”.  Freshman Troy Sheets surprised by scoring in both the long and triple jumps with a seventh and eighth place finish, respectively.  Sheets entered the championships completely unranked against more seasoned veteran jumpers.

For the women, for the third time in her stellar four-year career,  Elizabeth Hale placed in all three jumps at the championships. She finished in 5th place in the high jump, 7th in the long jump and 7th in the triple jump.  Surprising also, having been unranked entering the competition, junior Tammer Weems recorded her best shot mark of the season, 33'2” for eighth place, missing a higher finish by a scant 1 centimeter.  Freshman Sherry Blystone narrowly missed scoring having tied for 8th in the javelin but fell to 9th after including her second best throw as tie-breaker.   Blystone did score, however, along with teammates Courtney Phillips, Amber Brown and Chloey Mayo on the 8th place 4 x 100 meter relay squad.

Rhodes College won both the men's and women's championships.
