The Petrels track and field teams continued to break school records this weekend at the Gem of the Hills Invitational hosted by Division I member Jacksonville State.
The women's 4x100 relay team consisting of underclassmen Sherry Blystone, Kyana Jenkins, Raven Foust and Ky'Laine Rogers broke the existing school mark which has held since 2006 by running an outstanding 51.67, breaking the mark by over a second. This is the second relay record broken by the women's team in the last two meets. These athletes, along with 400 runner Sarah Foster, now hold both major women's relay records.
The outstanding Petrel athlete of the meet was junior Chris Schneider. Chris broke his own school record in the hammer throw, the third time he has done so this season. In addition , Chris set personal bests in both the javelin and shot put while also tossing the discus to cap an outstanding afternoon.
There were also a number of personal records set by other Oglethorpe athletes. Senior Shaina Tucker broke her own school record in the hammer throw, tossing almost 3 meters longer than her previous best. Captain Courtney Craig had personal best's in the discus and shot put while Kyana Jenkins ran her fastest 100 meters ever. Khadija Nisar ran her best 1500 meter race of her career and Sherry Blystone wrapped up her record setting day by establishing her all time marks in both the long jump and javelin throw.
The men's team finished the day placing 10th out of 15 teams, most them being D-I and D-II schools. For complete men's results, go here. The women's team came home in 14th place and their complete results can be found here.
The Petrels go back to Birmingham next week to compete in a key 4-way meet against other SCAC schools.
