Cross Country Finishes Season, Looks Ahead

Oglethorpe’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams finished their respective seasons Saturday in Memphis competing in the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships.

Proving that “there is no place like home”, freshman Khadija Nisar took a whopping TWO MINUTES off her best time for the year.  Nisar, from Germantown, TN had run her high school meets on the course, although the collegiate race added an additional kilometer.  She finished first for OU’s women.

Freshman Billy Colbert continued to lead Oglethorpe’s men in his final race of the season.  Senior captain, Ellis Jones, ran well to finish close behind Colbert.  Freshman Phillip Belcher ran a season best while Dustin Carnahan ran his final race before turning his full attention to competing with Oglethorpe’s inaugural lacrosse team next semester.

With nearly all athletes returning in the fall of 2011, Coach Bob Unger feels this year’s experience will pay big dividends next season.  “These student athletes exhibited a great work ethic and are excited about the prospects for Fall 2011. I am, too. Each improved, but has more improvement in the offing."
