Cross Country Teams Run Strong at Tiger Twilight

Running in the twilight of a surprisingly cool and crisp September day atop Monteagle, home course of the University of the South, the OU men and women ran exceptionally fine races. Each member of the cross country team improved their time with most posting personal records for the race distance.

The women finished 6th of 7 teams in a strong field of competitors. Freshman Katy Galli and junior Donyale Greenwell ran together over the entire 6k course until Galli sprinted the difficult uphill finish to edge her teammate. The pair was followed by co-captains Tirzah Brown and Khadija Nisar, freshman Lisa Hoffmann and sophomore Dona Kioseff.

Oglethorpe entered only four men in the unusual Friday contest. Freshman David Whitson finished one second ahead of co-captain Robbie Capps. Two more freshman Michael Caneega and Allen Griner finished third and fourth for the squad.

The teams next compete at the Southern Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Chattahoochee Tech, in Acworth next Saturday afternoon.
