Cross Country Teams Capture Third at Gunderson Invitational

Both the men's and women's cross-country teams took third place at the 2012 Aubrae Gunderson Invitational on Saturday.  Over 2200 collegiate and scholastic athletes participated in the races run over the course at the Olympic Horse Park in Conyers, Ga., site of the 1996 Olympic equestrian events.  Oglethorpe hosted the college portion of the meet.

Each Petrel squad was led by their respective captains.  Sophomore captain Michael Caneega finished eighth and was followed by Norman Cervantes (17th), Daniel Reveles (18th), Eric Hunt (20th), AJ Romine (23rd), Jeet Budha Magar (24th), Alexander Johnson (27th) and Jake Godwin (32nd).

The three captains of the women's team - Tirzah Brown, Khadija Nisar and Katy Galli - finished sixth, 10th and 14th, respectively. Jo O'Brien (17th), Nicole Ostermann (22nd), and Carol Rubens (27th) rounded out the scoring.

Brown posted the 18th fastest 5K run by an Oglethorpe woman while Nisar posted the 24th.  They join their captain teammate, Katy Galli, who owns the 15th fastest time.

The team next travels to Sewanee this Friday to compete in the annual Tiger Twilight Meet.
