Men's Cross Country Ranked Ninth in South/Southeast Region

The Oglethorpe men's cross country team earned a regional ranking Tuesday in the Week 1 poll put out by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), coming in at No. 9 in the South/Southeast region.

The Stormy Petrels have enjoyed back-to-back outstanding meets to begin the season, finishing second at the Georgia NCAA Division III Invitational on Sept. 1 and coming in 10th, second among Division III schools, at the Furman Invitational on Sept. 9.

The Petrels serve as one of two SAA schools in this week's South/Southeast regional rankings, as Rhodes came in at No. 3 in the poll. Crosstown rival Emory was second, while defending regional champion Christopher Newport held down the top spot.

"As a program we are super grateful and humbled to be ranked in the region for one of the first times in school history for this men's program," said Oglethorpe head coach Kirk Shellhouse. "This ranking demonstrates all the hard work that our men have put in over the summer and throughout the season so far. I am very excited to see what this group can accomplish going forward!"

Oglethorpe will next be in action on Sept. 23, when they travel to Gainesville, Florida, for the Mountain Dew Invitational, another meet where they will face a variety of Division I and Division II competition.
