Tigers Tame Petrels, 84-51

The Oglethorpe University women's basketball team lost to the DePauw University Tigers in Greencastle, Indiana on Sunday afternoon, 84-51. The Tigers forced the Petrels into 27 turnovers and never trailed en route to notching an SCAC win.

The Petrels shot the ball well enough on Sunday afternoon (19-45, 42%) but the Tigers did serious damage on the offensive boards, grabbing 31, and ultimately took a remarkable 37 more shots than Oglethorpe in the game. For the contest DePauw made 33 of 82 shots (40%) and outrebounded the Petrels 49-26 to win in convincing fashion.

Freshman Riley Cerone was the offensive leader for Oglethorpe for the second straight game, scoring 13 points on 4 of 8 shooting from the field. Kaci Palmore netted 8 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the contest and Sarah Giles posted 8 points and 5 rebounds. Kelley Reeves made 2 of 4 attempts from beyond the 3-point stripe and recorded 8 points on the afternoon.

With the result the Stormy Petrels are now 7-7 on the season and 2-3 in SCAC play. Oglethorpe is back in action this Friday at 6:00 p.m. when they face Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
