Women Topped by Trinity in Texas
The Oglethorpe University women's basketball team lost to Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas on Friday night, 92-63. The Stormy Petrels never held a lead in the contest and shot 32% from the field against a tough Tiger squad looking for revenge after Oglethorpe topped Trinity in last year's SCAC final for the conference championship.
The Petrels hung tough in the first half and were within shouting distance of the Tigers at the break, trailing 49-37. Trinity, however, turned a 53-41 advantage at the 17:42 mark of the second half into an 85-55 lead with 5:30 remaining on the strength of a 32-14 run.
Trinity dominated the boards to claim the SCAC win with a 55-39 advantage in that category. Despite the loss, freshman Riley Cerone continued her hot play, sinking 4 of 8 from downtown on her way to posting a team-high 16 points and 4 rebounds. Chelsea MacDonald was the only other Petrel in double-figures with 10 points on the evening. Kaci Palmore continued to demonstrate her rebounding prowess by grabbing 11 boards.
With their third straight loss, Oglethorpe is now 7-8 on the season and 4-6 in conference play. The Petrels will face Southwestern tomorrow night in Georgetown, Texas before heading home to face Austin in Atlanta next Friday night.
