Women's Basketball Blown Out by Berry, 104-50

The Oglethorpe women's basketball team suffered a big loss in their SAA opener Thursday night, falling to the visiting Vikings, 104-50.

The Lady Petrels fell behind early and never recovered, falling behind by 19 points with 9:30 remaining in the first half. Berry would extend that lead to 25 before the first half was over, leading 49-24 with a minute remaining in the half. The Vikings took a 51-26 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, Berry extended the lead even further, outscoring the Lady Petrels 53-24 in the second half. They led by as many as 60 late in the second half before attaining the final 54-point spread, 104-50.

Berry outscored Oglethorpe in the paint 40-20, off turnovers 32-6, in second-chance points 23-6, on the fast break 28-7, and off the bench 35-21. The Vikings shot 49 percent from the floor to Oglethorpe's 23 percent. The Lady Petrels were just 2-for-22 (nine percent) from three-point range.

Oglethorpe did get a good game from Kendelle Culpepper, who scored 11 points and nabbed four rebounds on the night. Sarah Giles came away with six points, six rebounds and four blocks.

The Lady Petrels fall to 2-3 on the season, 0-1 in SAA play. They will next take the court Saturday afternoon, when they will travel to Lookout Mountain, Ga., to take on Covenant. Tip-off will be at 2 p.m.
