The Oglethorpe women's basketball team suffered its third straight loss Saturday afternoon, falling 76-55 to Covenant in Lookout Mountain, Ga.
The Lady Petrels got off to a quick start in the first five minutes, jumping out to a 12-2 lead. However, Covenant immediately went on a 12-0 run, taking the lead with 12:55 remaining in the half. The Scots would take a 38-30 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Oglethorpe quickly cut the Covenant lead to two at 42-40, but from that point, the Scots went on a 12-minute 30-3 run, putting the game away for good. By the end of the run, they led the Lady Petrels 72-43.
Oglethorpe was 0-for-27 over the course of the game from the three-point arc, compared to Covenant's 10-for-21. The Scots outshot the Lady Petrels overall 47-to-32 percent. Covenant also outrebounded Oglethorpe 48-39.
Senior center Sarah Giles offered a bright spot for Oglethorpe, tallying her second double-double of the season with 24 points and 15 rebounds. She also added five blocks. Freshman guard Kalin Williams contributed seven points and three assists.
The 2-4 Lady Petrels will next take the floor Wednesday evening, when they travel across town to take on Emory at 6 p.m. from the Woodruff PE Center on Emory's campus.
