The women's golf team recorded a 12th place finish among 16 solid golf programs in the BSC Shootout that concluded on Tuesday. The Petrels squad combined to fire a two-day total of 663, their lowest two round score of the season.
Playing at the Highland Park Country Club in Birmingham, Oglethorpe began the tournament by firing their lowest round of the year of 335 and backed that up on day two with an even better 328. Lee University of the NAIA won the event with a total of 577. Among the local and conference schools participating, Oglethorpe finished 26 shots behind Southwestern, 21 behind Piedmont, 18 back of Birmingham-Southern and just 2 strokes behind Berry College. The Petrels bested Huntingdon College by 5 strokes and Rhodes College by 16 shots.
As she has for most of the fall season, Tori Van Wyen paced the Petrels with a total of 161 (+21), good for a 35th place tie. Chelsea Gatterdam carded a 164 (+24) for a tied for 43rd result while frshman Jordan Krahn's 170 (+30) was good for T-62nd. Freshman Laurin Halstead and Erin McPhee rounded out Oglethorpe's scoring one stroke apart with a 176 (+36) and 177 (+37), respectively.
The Petrels are back in action next week when they compete in the Rhodes Fall Invitational.
